Class Objective – The student will learn to:
- Understand the history and development of Small Format Interchangeable Core (SFIC) systems.
- Identify the components and design of SFIC cylinders and cores.
- Learn the principles and mathematics behind SFIC keying systems.
- Understand the applications and advantages of interchangeable core systems.
- Perform proper pinning and capping procedures for SFIC cylinders.
- Gain a working knowledge of the A2 pinning system used throughout the industry.
- Become familiar with the A3 and A4 pinning systems and understand their differences from A2.
- Develop the skills necessary to service, maintain, and troubleshoot SFIC systems.
Course Description
Small Format Interchangeable Core (SFIC) systems are widely used in commercial, institutional, educational, and government facilities because they provide exceptional flexibility, security, and ease of maintenance.
This course provides a comprehensive introduction to SFIC design, history, applications, and servicing. Students will learn the mathematical concepts that make interchangeable core systems function, along with proper pinning, capping, and servicing procedures. Special emphasis will be placed on the A2 Pinning System, the industry standard for most SFIC applications, while also introducing the A3 and A4 systems and discussing where they are commonly used.
Whether you are new to interchangeable cores or looking to strengthen your existing knowledge, this course provides the practical foundation needed to confidently work with SFIC hardware.
